170924-N-AC254-053 U.S. 5 TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 24, 2017) Quartermaster 1st Class Maria Smith, a native of San Diego, and Quartermaster 2nd Class Sausha Brinkley, a Chicago native, both assigned to navigation department aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), raise the ensign on the ship’s mast. America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
