U.S. Marines, Sailors depart for Puerto Rico to coordinate with FEMA, local government

A U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (Reinforced), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), departs the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) for a key leader engagement with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Puerto Rico National Guard, in the Caribbean Sea, Sept. 22, 2017. The 26th MEU brings diverse capabilities and is positioned in the region awaiting tasking to support FEMA, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
