Three Air Commandos assigned to the 15th Special Operations Squadron received the Distinguished Flying Cross at Hurlburt Field, Fla., Sept. 8, 2017. These Air Commandos were an instrumental part of a mission while deployed in 2014, during which they provided aerial refueling for a helicopter formation, preventing friendly forces from being forced to make emergency landings in hostile territory. The DFC is awarded for heroic or extraordinary achievement in flight and can be awarded to an officer or enlisted member in any branch of the military.
