An MH-53E helicopter from Helicopter Countermeasures Squadron 14 is loaded with food and water for people affected by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake that triggered a devastating tsunami along Japan's eastern coastline. HM-14 is currently operating onboard USS Tortuga in support of Operation Tomodachi. Operation Tomodachi (Japanese for “friendship”) involves 14 U.S. Navy ships, more than 100 aircraft and thousands of U.S. service members assisting with disaster relief and humanitarian development assistance.
