170915-N-GR120-641 HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 15, 2017) Chief Hospital Corpsman William Culp, assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), smiles as his chief petty officer combination cover is placed on his head by Chief Hospital Corpsman Charlena Brown during a chief petty officer pinning ceremony at Bayview Commonwealth Center on Langley Air Force Base. George Washington is undergoing a refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling of the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repair, upgrades and modernization.
