Service members assigned to the Military District of Washington

Recognition Day was originally established in 1979 and is recognized
every year on the third Friday of September. It is a national day of
observance to honor American service members who have been prisoners
of war or have gone missing in action throughout past conflicts. Today
there are still 82,468 service members throughout the world that are
