    920th Rescue Wing

Crews begin shutdown procedures on their HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters after returning to Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., Sept. 12, 2017. Personnel and aircraft assigned to the Air Force Reserve's 920th Rescue Wing evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irma's destructive path. The rescue aircraft were prepositioned for two days of out of harm's way inside the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando to serve as 1st responders to those in need after the storm. After canvassing the state of Florida for two days, it was determined that no air rescues were needed. The unit stood down from search and rescue support after being dismissed from the civil support mission from U.S. Northern Command. Hurricane Irma came ashore Sept. 10 in the Florida Keys, forcing Fmilitary installations throughout the state and in nearby locations to brace for tropical storm and hurricane-like conditions.
