Sgt. Cassandra Franco, a medic assigned to 2nd Chemical Battalion, 48th Chemical Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas along with other Soldiers help load hale bales into a CH-47 Chinook helicopter to be delivered to cattle that have been stranded by Hurricane Harvey near Hampshire, Texas on Sep. 3, 2017. “It is an honor to serve the people by taking cattle some feed,” said Franco. “These folks have lost so much already it’s the least we can do. We didn’t just feed the cattle, we protected these folks livelihood.” The Department of Defense is conducting Defense Support of Civil Authorities operations in response to the effects of Hurricane Harvey. DSCA operations are part of the DoD’s response capability to assist civilian responders in saving lives, relieving human suffering and mitigating property damage in response to a catastrophic disaster.
