CAIRNS, Australia – An Aboriginal instructor demonstrates how boomerangs were traditionally used in combat to a U.S. Marine with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, Marine Rotational Force Darwin, during Indigenous Australian culture classes held as part of Exercise Kowari 2017 Aug. 23, 2017. After an opening ceremony, the soldiers and Marines also took part in some traditional activities such as boomerang throwing, hut building and tribal face painting to introduce those visiting from the US and China to Indigenous Australian culture. Kowari is an annual training activity held in Australia to reinforce trilateral military relationships, trust and co-operation between Australia, China and the United States.
