Inside an Oregon Army National Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter, mid-mission, aviators keep tally on their flight deck windshield with the number of buckets they've dropped on the Whitewater Fire in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness Area on one tank of fuel, August 8, 2017. The unit has averaged between 18 and 28 water drops per fuel load, depending on dip-site and where water is released. Each Bambi Bucket can hold up to 2,000 gallons of water when at full capacity.
