Retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. Leroy Petry, a recipient of the Medal of Honor, signs a munition attached to an F-16 Fighting Falcon at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, Aug. 10, 2017. Petry received the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest medal for valor, for his actions in a battle on May 26, 2008, in Afghanistan; he picked up a live grenade and attempted to throw it back at the enemy when it exploded, completely destroying his right hand.
