Coast Guard participates in international canine explosives detection demonstration [Image 2 of 4]
Petty Officer 2nd Class Elliot Felix, a maritime enforcement specialist and dog handler assigned to Maritime Safety and Security Team 91101 in Seattle, pulls a toy from a bag on his belt to reward Luna, a Belgian Malinois explosives detection canine, after she correctly hit on planted explosives during a joint international demonstration at Safeco in Seattle, Aug. 8, 2017.
Currently found under the Coast Guard maritime enforcement rating, canine handler was its own rating from 1943 to 1952, with over 3,600 dog teams as compared to less than 20 teams today.
