    South African National Defense Force Staff Sgt. Shaun Pieters, a fieldcraft instructor for the South African Army’s infantry school, demonstrates to U.S. troops how to prepare a “rat pack,” or field ration, July 23, 2017, during Exercise Shared Accord 2017 at the South African Army Combat Training Center in Lohatla, South Africa. During SA 17, South African and U.S. forces train together in areas such as counter-IED training, strong point defense and offensive operations and Peacekeeping scenarios.
