SAN DIEGO (July 25, 2017) Air and safety department Sailors aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) receive the Admiral James H. Flatley Memorial Award for excellence in aviation safety from Commander, Naval Air Forces Vice Adm. Mike Shoemaker during a ceremony on the ship’s flight deck.
