Stephen Ryan and members of the community gathered for a special observance to remember the fallen service members of the Marine Corps KC-130T Hercules crash in Mississippi at the Freedom Fountain in Jacksonville, North Carolina, July 15. Nine Marines assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 based out of Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York and six Marines and a Navy corpsman assigned to 2nd Marine Raider Battalion stationed on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. perished in the crash, July 10. “This event today has allowed the community to come together and start the grieving process for this unfortunate tragedy,” said Don Herring, chairman of the Onslow Civic Affairs Committee.
