U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Ryan Slusher watches his platoon work with the Philippine Marines during amphibious operations July 18, 2017, on Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan. The Philippine Marine Corps recently purchased AAVS and are working with U.S. Marines to learn different amphibious procedures – such as hand signaling, egress training, and water operations. This is the first time the Philippine military has trained on an American base. “The Filipinos have been very eager to train with us. They’ve been with us from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,” said Slusher, a South Charleston, Ohio native. He is the platoon sergeant for 1st platoon, Charlie Co., 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion attached to Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division through the unit deployment program.
