Pieces of a 60 mm mortar shell recovered from the mountainside behind Combat Outpost Najil after an attack, Dec. 29. The attack was the largest against the COP since the soldiers from Company A, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Regiment, Task Force Ironman, part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, Task Force Red Bulls took over operations. Five mortar shells were fired on the COP from insurgent forces, as well as small arms fire. The attack was quickly extinguished with the help of close-air support without any injuries to U.S. soldiers.
