JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 23, 2017) – Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Christopher Schaffer, a native of Lancaster, California and currently assigned to Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s orthopedics clinic, prepares to apply a patient’s cast. Schaffer currently serves as the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery’s enlisted technical leader for 131 orthopedic technicians. In 2010, Schaffer deployed to Haiti as the sole orthopedic technician aboard USS Bataan (LHD 5) as part of a disaster relief mission. “While taking care of hundreds of casualties, it opened my eyes to how well we have it here. It was one of the most humbling experiences in my life to care for those so severely wounded.
