Lt. Col. Benjamin J. Palmer, right, passes the battle colors of the 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion to Lt. Col. Joel A. Burdette in a change of command ceremony at MCAS Cherry Point’s Miller’s Landing Dec. 16. Despite being primarily employed as provisional infantry security troops, Palmer maintained 2nd LAAD’s abilities as a low altitude anti-aircraft unit.
