(Left) First Sergeant Neil Roselli, first sergeant, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Calif., and Col. Sekou Karega, commanding officer, MCLB Barstow, presented 17 military spouses with certificates of appreciation for their numerous volunteer activities throughout the year that keep the home fires burning and their spouses ready to answer the call to arms. The certificates were presented at a Military Spouse Appreciation Ceremony at the Maj. Gen. James L. Day Conference Center aboard base, June 19. The event was organized by Jesica Grow (second left), a Families Overcoming Under Stress (FOCUS) Resilience Trainer. FOCUS is an organization contracted by the Department of Defense to, in the words of their brochure, “… provide a range of resilience enhancing services to service members and their families” by helping military families develop coping mechanisms to deal with issues such as deployment of a spouse.
