GHAZNI CITY, AFGHANISTAN
Karl Eikenberry, U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan, shakes a little girl's hand during the playground dedication at Ghazni City Orphanage in Ghazni Dec. 15. The playground was donated by friends and family of U.S. Department of Agriculture advisor Tom “Big Daddy” Stefani, who was killed in action by an improvised explosive device in Ghazni Province October 2007. During his time in Ghazni, Stefani worked with the Directorate of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and Texas Agribusiness Development Team to create plans for poultry-rearing facilities, tree farms and improved grape production. While in the province, Stefani learned the orphanage in Ghazni City did not have enough toys or equipment. He immediately launched a plan to raise money from family and friends for a playground for the orphanage.
