Joseph Gardner, commander of the 149th Military Engagement Team, Kentucky Army National Guard, attempts to swim 100 meters in full uniform in under four minutes as part of the qualification for the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge May 27, 2017, near Amman, Jordan. Gardner completed the swim and, at the end of the three-day event, was one of more than 50 U.S. Army Soldiers, U.S. Air Force Airmen and Canadian Armed Forces soldiers who earned the GAFPB, a decoration of the German Armed Forces which is authorized for wear by the U.S. military.
