The Royal Thai Navy became the 25th member nation of Combined Maritime Forces when Similan began its deployment in September. Similan conducted maritime security and counter-piracy operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility as part of Combined Task Force 151. CTF 151 was established in Jan. 2009 to conduct counter-piracy operations in and around the Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin.
