NEW YORK (May 27, 2017) A Korean War veteran salutes the American flag as a U.S. Navy officer, assigned to USS Lassen (DDG 82), presents the flag during a changing of the flag ceremony at Lake/Silvie’s Cemetery, Staten Island, for the Annual Remembrance Day ceremony held in conjunction with 2017 Fleet Week New York (FWNY). Sailors from the USS Lassen (DDG 82), Mayport, Florida, Korean War veterans and community speakers gathered for their 14th year, to pay homage to Korean War veterans. FWNY, now in its 29th year, is the city’s time honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s maritime services.
