Lt. Cmdr. Donovan Wortham, chief engineer aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Ponce (LPD 15), observes Petty Officer 1st Class Belarminio Carrasco, a machinist's mate, simulate the spread of a fuel oil-based fire in main machinery room one during a main space fire drill. Wortham and Carrasco are members of the ship's engineering training team, which regularly trains and conducts fire drills to prepare the crew to combat damage control issues such as fires, flooding or structural failure. Ponce is part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
