PACIFIC OCEAN (May 4, 2017) - Lt. Joven Ernani Dinglasan, Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) of the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC), monitors Lt. Ryan Kelly while he operates the force air watch station during a surface action group versus surface action group (SAG V SAG) exercise aboard USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). Thirteen WTIs are underway with the USS Theodore Roosevelt Strike Group (CSG) leading advanced tactical training events in support of the Theodore Roosevelt Group Sail. WTIs are an elite cadre of young surface warfare officers (SWO) selected by SMWDC to become the best of the best in tactics and doctrine development. Best identified by their red and black patches, WTIs are charged with increasing the tactical proficiency of surface ships, in support of sea control and maintaining maritime dominance.
