NORFOLK, Va. (April 14, 2017) – Gunner’s Mate Seaman Sharon Harder, assigned to Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) weapons department prepares to fire an M-14 rifle with a Mark-87 line throwing kit as the ship pulls into Norfolk. The first-of-class ship -- the first new U.S. aircraft carrier design in 40 years -- has spent several days conducting builder's sea trials, a comprehensive test of many of the ship's key systems and technologies.
