PACIFIC OCEAN (April 1, 2017) Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Josh Freeman, from Three Rivers, Mich., cleans the barrel of a Mark 45 5-inch gun aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Howard (DDG 83). Howard is currently underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group’s assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
