Company A, 1st Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo., pops a canister of purple smoke on a range in Adazi Military Base, Latvia, April 9. The smoke color signifies loss of global positioning systems and loss of radio communication to the other vehicles on the range, thereby changing the method of communication to flag signals in the scenario. The 3rd ABCT is a multifunctional armored brigade combat team trained to operate, respond quickly and retain the ability to communicate in any environment. The brigade is deployed to Eastern Europe under Operation Atlantic Resolve, a U.S. led NATO endeavor to promote peace in the region by deterring aggressive actions. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
