WELISARA NAVAL BASE, Sri Lanka (March 30, 2017) U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Patrick Reynolds, commanding officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 11, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), presents an 11th MEU paddle to Sri Lanka Navy leaders during a barbecue held at Welisara Naval Base as part of a theater security cooperation engagement, March 30. The barbecue followed the culminating exercise of the engagement, where U.S. Marines guided Sri Lankan Marines through a series of scenarios, to include: searching, medically treating, and in-processing simulated victims and detainees into a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief camp. Both the U.S. and Sri Lanka have a continuing interest in strengthening their partnership based on common interests related to maritime security, HA/DR preparedness, and security and stability in the region.
