Dwain Tolbert, an ophthalmic technician with the 21st Aerospace Medicine Squadron out of Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., uses an auto refractor to determine a patient’s eyeglass prescription during an optometry exam with the assistance of a translator from the organization Sanar una Nación, in Azua, Dominican Republic, March 4, 2017, during a NEW HORIZONS 2017 medical readiness training exercise. NEW HORIZONS provides U.S. military members an opportunity to train for an overseas deployment and all of the logistical requirements it entails, and promotes bilateral cooperation by providing real opportunities for U.S. and partner nation military engineers, medical personnel and support staff to work and train side by side.
