170323-N-XT039-235 PHILIPPINE SEA (March 23, 2017) Cmdr. Michael Barry, left, from Clarksville, Tenn., assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion (CLB) 31 of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conducts a medical screening exam on Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Jared Kepler, from Maple Valley, Wash., during a simulated non-combatant evacuation operation (NEO) in the hangar bay of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as part of a certification exercise (CERTEX). A NEO is an exercise conducted to ensure commands can quickly and efficiently complete the task of evacuating non-combatant personnel from unstable regions. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st (MEU) is on a routine patrol, operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance warfighting readiness and posture forward as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
