    USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) 31st MEU Maritime Raid Force Helo Cast

    170319-N-TH560-450 PHILIPPINE SEA (March 19, 2017) A Reconnaissance Marine, assigned to the Maritime Raid Force (MRF) of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), embarked on amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), jumps from a CH-53E Super Stallion, assigned to the “Flying Tigers” of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 262, during a helo cast exercise. A helo cast is a method used to insert reconnaissance and surveillance teams for amphibious reconnaissance missions requiring small boat operations. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is on a routine patrol, operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance warfighting readiness and posture forward as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
