USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) 31st MEU Maritime Raid Force Helo Cast

170319-N-TH560-988 PHILIPPINE SEA (March 19, 2017) Reconnaissance Marines, assigned to the Maritime Raid Force (MRF) of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), navigate a combat rubber raiding craft (CRRC) into the well deck of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) following a helo cast exercise. A helo cast is a method used to insert reconnaissance and surveillance teams for amphibious reconnaissance missions requiring small boat operations. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st MEU, is on a routine patrol, operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to enhance warfighting readiness and posture forward as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
