MEDITERRANEAN SEA (March 9, 2017) — A U.S. Marine assigned to the small-caliber action team puts his gloves on prior to patrolling the deck of USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) March 9, 2017 during passage through the Strait of Gibraltar. Marines and Sailors worked in concert in fixed and roving security positions as a part of SCAT during the strait passage. The strait forms the only outlet of the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Carter Hall, with elements of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard, is currently deployed with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
