Rct. Andres Hernandez, an 18-year-old native of Monterey, Tenn., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Hernandez, is training with Platoon 1022, Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate April 7, 2017. “I wanted to build a legacy for my family,” said Hernandez, who graduated from Monterey High School in 2016. “I wanted to set a good example to my siblings and friends who I think need guidance.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous training.
