U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Szafranski cleans the breach of a 120mm mortar system during scheduled maintenance of crew served weapons February 6, 2017 aboard USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) at sea. Szafranski is a field artilleryman with Fox Battery, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Searcy, Arkansas native. The 24th MEU will operate in Europe and the Middle East in the coming months providing crisis response and contingency support for combatant commanders, including maritime security operations, humanitarian assistance and advance force operations.
