Camp Lemonnier, DJIBOUTI (Feb. 7, 2017) A U.S. Marine with the Maritime Raid Force, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, signals a CH-53E Super Stallion during helicopter rope suspension technique training near Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Feb. 7. After fast-roping from the aircraft, the Marines set up security around the perimeter of the drop-zone to protect the aircraft until it departs the area. The method of fast-roping into enemy-occupied territory allows for the Marines to quickly exit the aircraft, reducing its time on-station and mitigating the risk of damage to the aircraft from enemy fire at the landing zone.
