Recent graduates of the Philippine Military Academy listen as Capt. Joseph Lavan, senior medical officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, explains how ordinance elevators can be used to transport wounded from the hangar bay to the medical department. The officers are part of a delegation of U.S. and Republic of the Philippines government and military officials touring the ship before a scheduled port visit to Manila. George Washington, the Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, is underway helping to ensure security and stability in the western Pacific Ocean.
