SATTAHIP, Thailand (Jan. 23, 2017) Builder 2nd Class Benjamin Reed, assigned to Underwater Construction Team (UCT) 2, welds an anode to a pile. Each anode is welded at two points of contact to the pile, where it will provide cathodic protection, extending the life of the pile. UCT 2’s Construction Diving Detachment Charlie (CDDC), in partnership with the Royal Thai Navy, is performing critical underwater repairs to a pier in order to extend the infrastructure’s lifespan. CDDC is on the first stop of their deployment, where they are conducting inspection, maintenance, and repair of various underwater and waterfront facilities in support of the Pacific Fleet.
