Pfc. Brayden K. Hawley, Platoon 2012, Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, receives his Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem from his brother, Drill Instructor Staff Sgt. Broghan J. Hawley, Feb. 4, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. “I will hold onto my brother giving me the Eagle, Globe and Anchor forever,” said Brayden, 22, who is scheduled to graduate Feb. 10, 2017. “It’s a bond that will last a lifetime.” The Eagle, Globe and Anchor is the emblem of the Marine Corps and has great value to all Marines, past and present. “Unless you’ve gone through boot camp, you don’t understand what earning the Eagle, Globe and Anchor means,” said Broghan, 27, a drill instructor with Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion. “I’ve gone through it and taken three platoons through it too. I know what it means. Giving the Eagle, Globe and Anchor to my brother stands out from all of the recruits I’ve given it to because it’s personal.” Both brothers are from Spencer, Iowa.
