170203-N-YW024-018 WEST LOCH, Hawaii (Feb. 3, 2017) Carol J. Gleason, a sister of the late Martin L. Johnson a World War II veteran, throws flowers to honor her brother's memory. Johnson was killed on LST 480 during the West Loch Disaster of May 21, 1944. The wreckage of LST still remains visible in West Loch and serves as a reminder of the life lost during the disaster and the heroic actions of those who struggled to save their fellow service members and control the damage.
