A crane lifts the one half of a gate machinery sheave, one of many components assembled in the lock gate tower and used to raise and lower the downstream navigation lock gate on at Ice Harbor Lock and Dam. A news media event was held on the deck to help bring awareness to the community about the 2016-2017 Extended Navigation Lock Maintenance Outage by showcasing the associated Ice Harbor navigation lock gate hoist machinery upgrade. The upgrade includes replacement of the sheave shafts, pinion gears, ring gears, electrical wiring and operating controls in both lock gate towers.
