On Sept. 25 Lance Cpl. Christopher J. Chaviano, 20, a machine gunner with 3rd Platoon, Combat Logistics Company 111, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Fwd), and a native Long Beach, Calif., sits inside of his weapon mount sitting in a weapon mount keeping an eye out for enemy activity during a eight-hour re-supply operation through the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. "It is hours of pure driving or sitting on a (weapon mount) without knowing if your going to get blown up (by a road side bomb) or get shot at," said Chaviano, a machine gunner with 3rd Platoon. "It's a hard job, but a great job." The platoon engages in re-supply missions throughout Al Anbar Province at least three times a week, running operations from base to base to supply other units with what they need to complete their mission, said Staff Sgt. Michael W. Nichols, 30, platoon sergeant for 3rd Platoon and a native of Laplace, La. 3rd Platoon, Combat Logistics Company 111, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Fwd) is deployed with I MEF (FWD) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq (MNF-W) to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic government reforms, and continue the development of a market based economy centered on Iraqi Reconstruction.
