Garfinkel, a military policewoman with 241st Military Police Detachment at Fort Meade, Md., is part of 20 NCOs and Soldiers competing at the fifth annual NCO and Soldier of the Year competition Oct. 2-6, 2006, at Fort Lee, Va. The Soldiers have marched and run more than 15 miles the past 2 days. Gerfinkel is native to Washington, D.C.
