Sgt. Tyler Hayes of Adair, Oklahoma loads a magazine with rounds for an AKM rifle before using the weapon during a familiarization fire at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center near Yavoriv, Ukraine on Jan. 19. Hayes, a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. His company, and another from 1st Bn. 179th Inf Regt., fired both the AKM rifle and PKM machine gun to familiarize themselves with the weapons before partnering with Ukrainian combat training center staff at the IPSC to mentor Ukrainian army units rotating through the training center.
