Indiana and D.C. Army National Guard Soldiers take a short break during a long shift hosted by the U.S. Capital Police at the Fairchild Building in Washington D.C., Jan. 20, 2017. The Soldiers were providing support to local and federal partners as part of the 58th Presidential Inauguration to ensure a safe and secure inauguration in Washington D.C. More than 7,500 Soldiers and Airmen from 44 states, 3 territories and the District of Columbia are working with partners to provide a safe and enjoyable environment. The National Guard is serving several critical functions including crowd management, traffic control, emergency services, logistics and ceremonial marching elements, and has been a part of every presidential inauguration since 1789.
