Rct. Ana S. Madrigal, a 19-year-old native of Earlimart, Calif., is currently in training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Madrigal is training with Platoon 4005, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Feb. 10, 2017. “I wanted to show my younger brother that you can be successful matter where you come from,” said Madrigal, who graduated from Cesar E. Chavez High School in 2015. “The town I am from there are a lot of gangs, and I had a lot of family issues growing up. My choice was to join the Marine Corps to show that to him.” Approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 12 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 49 percent of male recruits and 100 percent of female recruits in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Carlin Warren)
