    11th Marine Expeditionary Unit

U.S. Marines with Company C, Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 4th Marines, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), take part in an unknown-distance range during Exercise Alligator Dagger at Arta Beach, Djibouti, Dec. 13, 2016. The purpose of the unknown distance shoot is to allow Marines to practice judging the distances and successfully engage targets with no prior knowledge of how far away their targets lay. These training repetitions build the knowledge base and muscle memory the Marines may rely on in future combat situations. The unilateral exercise provides an opportunity for the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 11th MEU to train in amphibious operations within the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. The 11th MEU is currently supporting U.S. 5th Fleet’s mission to promote and maintain stability and security in the region. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Devan K. Gowans)
