Flags from six different countries representing the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, adorn the grounds of the French school Kessel in downtown Djibouti, Dec. 9, 2016. Each flag represented the nationality of the soccer players whose teams gathered there for a friendly soccer tournament supporting the Kick for Nick Foundation. The non-profit foundation was established in 2006 by the family of Pfc. Nicholas Madaras, an avid soccer player and youth coach who was killed while serving in Iraq. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is a multinational effort to conduct theater security cooperation, combat violent extremism and enable freedom of movement within East Africa in order to defend U.S. interests and support aligned regional efforts.
